Taufan Morakot telah melanda Taiwan & juga China..
TAIPEI 10 Ogos - Sekurang-kurangnya 14 orang disahkan terbunuh manakala 400 lagi dipercayai hilang di Taiwan hari ini selepas Taufan Morakot menyebabkan banjir terburuk di negara ini dalam tempoh separuh dekad. Polis Taiwan berkata, dianggarkan seramai 400 orang hilang akibat tanah runtuh selepas Morakot melanda perkampungan pergunungan bahagian pedalaman negara itu.
Sementara itu, laporan akbar yang memetik daripada sumber penduduk tempatan pula melaporkan seramai 600 orang telah tertimbus dalam runtuhan tersebut. Pasukan tentera turut berusaha menyelamatkan beribu-ribu lagi penduduk yang terputus hubungan ekoran jambatan runtuh atau air sungai deras selepas taufan mencatat rekod dengan jumlah hujan sebanyak 2.5 meter padu sebelum menuju ke perairan tanah besar China.
Kira-kira 32 orang lagi cedera apabila Morakot yang bermaksud zamrud dalam bahasa Thai membawa tiupan angin kencang dan hujan lebat, menggendalakan perkhidmatan kereta api dan lalu lintas jalan raya serta menyebabkan jambatan runtuh.
Di selatan dan tengah Taiwan, hujan lebat menyebabkan banjir besar dan tanah runtuh, terutamanya di daerah Pingtung, iaitu tempat beribu-ribu penduduk terperangkap. Di daerah Kaohsiung pula, jambatan runtuh menyebabkan perhubungan ke perkampungan terpencil yang didiami 1,300 penduduk terputus.
